The following requirements shall be adhered to in the preparation of submissions to the 2007 Kentuckiana Masonry Institute Awards Program. Responsibility for compliance rests with the entrant, and entries submitted incorrectly may be disqualified. One set of materials per project entered (containing the materials referenced below) will be provided to all entrants.
PURPOSE

To encourage and recognize excellence in masonry design, the Kentuckiana Masonry Institute announces its twenty-seventh annual Awards Program for architectural projects completed since January 1, 2003. Through this program, the Masonry Institute seeks to honor works of distinction and to bring to public attention outstanding masonry buildings and masonry projects. To qualify for entry, projects must use masonry as the primary material. They will be judged on the basis of excellence in design as well as the appropriate and innovative use of unit masonry construction.
ELIGIBILITY

All entries shall be executed architectural projects built in Kentucky and the counties of Floyd, Clark and Harrison in Indiana. These projects must have been completed after January 1, 2004. Projects must use masonry as the primary material. Projects that have won awards in other programs are eligible for submission.

Award winning projects in this program may not be resubmitted in future years. All other entries may be resubmitted if building completion complies with prescribed date.

All entries may be submitted in the manner herein specified. Registration deadline is November 30, 2007 and completed entries must be received by February 1, 2008.
CLASSIFICATIONS

The program is open to architectural projects of all classifications. It is not necessary that the entrant designate the entry by category. In the judgment, equal emphasis will be given to all classifications.
JURY

The jury will consist of prominent architects from a major city outside Kentucky, selected by the Awards Committee. The jury will name its own chairman. Judging will be made in the home city of the jury members during the month of February.

SUBMISSION MATERIALS

The submission materials outlined below will be provided by Kentuckiana Masonry Institute to all entrants by mail or can be downloaded from the KMI website from the submission materials section.

  1. DESCRIPTIVE DATA SHEETS
  2. AWARDS SUBMITTAL TEMPLATE FILE
  3. CONCEALED IDENTIFICATION SHEET

Here are specific instructions on each of the items listed above:

  1. Architectural Awards Descriptive Date Sheet DESCRIPTIVE DATA SHEETS

A two-page form will be provided, in hard copy as a Word document or can be downloaded from our website from the submission materials section. The project descriptions should be brief but complete. Remember, this is the only information provided the jury on your project. List all types of masonry materials used on the project describing their use as this information is essential to your presentation. Do not insert photographs on these sheets.

  2. Awards Template AWARDS SUBMITTAL TEMPLATE

Attention MAC Users: Your Powerpoint file must be submitted in PC format. If you are a MAC user, please convert the file to the PC format before submitting. We strongly recommend that you convert the file and then test it on a PC yourself before submitting to us. Kentuckiana Masonry Institute does not have the capability to do this conversion.

For multiple submissions, the entrant should make copies of the template file. DO NOT put more than one project on a CD or send separate emails for each project. All entrants will be responsible for placing their specific project image files into the Awards Submittal Template file provided. Each file should be named as follows “Firm Name - Entry A.” Use B, C, D, etc. if you are submitting more than one entry.

All images must be jpeg files at a maximum of 5" x 9" at 150 dpi for horizontal images, and a maximum of 5.5" x 7 “ at 150 dpi for vertical images. These dimensions will fit the template provided. Larger image files are unnecessary and will slow down the jury process. It is possible that your images are not these exact dimensions. For example, you may have a horizontal image that is 5" x 8.25". The dimensions provided are maximums for height and width; one of the dimensions may be smaller.

The images may either be color or black and white. Images may not be manipulated or enhanced in any way that changes the building itself. Removal of power lines or other obstructions is acceptable as long as there is no enhancement of the building as it appears in its current built form as a result. Sky replacements/enhancements, removal or transformation of building surfaces, materials, and mechanical/electrical appurtenances is not permitted.

You should provide a description of each image in the text box located at the bottom of each screen of the Powerpoint presentation. Examples: “ Exterior view of front facade” or “Site plan drawing showing (description).”

Remove all firm identification from all images. Every effort must be made to conceal the identity of the project, submitting firms, and client in all written and visual materials used in the submission of this entry. Failure to abide by this requirement may result in disqualification of the entry. If you have any questions, call Kentuckiana Masonry Institute prior to submitting all information.
